The unfortunate truth about most marketing agencies and freelancers

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again:

I’m making it a personal mission of mine to help innocent business owners prevent themselves from getting lied to, stolen from, and their business ruined by agencies and freelancers alike, who talk a big game on social media and their website, and then when it comes time to deliver results, they hustle you, ghost you, and ransack your coffers.

In fact, I just hired a freelancer who did the exact same thing to me! (Save the ghosting… he just played “hooky” almost every other day with a lame-arse excuse.) I asked for a refund last night, we’ll see if’n he grants my request or not.

Now, I did this for research purposes obviously…

Also, I’m not a fan of asking for refunds.

It’s important that you are the client you want to become. And being a pain-in-the-arse client is a surefire way to have your client roster full of pain in the arses.

But this particular situation is a different case:

* I caught the jabroni lying to me several times

* I found a cheaper competitor (who’s gonna do 10x the work he pretended to do) and hired him before I even asked for a refund — In fact, I hired this competitor directly after paying a massive unexpected bill… lesson in there (we’ll see soon if it’s advice or a cautionary tale haha)

* He routinely over promised and under delivered

* Since I hired him a few months back, he’s generated exactly zero results despite promising me things would turn around

Now, I could regret not doing this sooner. And I do. But research.

Y’see, I’m coming up on my five-year anniversary.

I’ve helped a bunch of clients since then to build a stronger, more resilient, and more profitable business.

But I’ve also been duped by clients. I’ve heard of agency and freelancer horror stories. But it wasn’t until now that I, myself with my own moolah, got taken advantage of by a freelancer or agency.

(There was some shitty LinkedIn “coach” who I once paid a whopping $3 grand to for telling me a bunch of shyt I already know…)

Why do I bore you with this trial of defeats?

Couple reasons:

First, to warn you about 95% of agencies and freelancers.

I don’t care how good of a game they kick on their social media profiles, in their Facebook cesspool groups, or how many doctored “reviews” they put on their websites.

Most of them ain’t great.

They often promise you the world, then can’t even deliver enough to fund your daily coffee habit.

Second, to be honest with you:

Nobody, not even the greatest freelancer, will care about your business more than you.

Now, they might have a skill that can make the Brinks truck backup into your bank account early and often.

But at the end of the day?

They didn’t build your business.

And so, if you’re relying on them to love your business and dedicate themselves to your business like you did, then, well, you’re setting yourself up for failure.

But that’s okay too.

We all fail.

And you shouldn’t let this stop you from searching for other people who can help take your business to the next level. Sure, they might not love the business as much as you. But if’n they actually know what they’re doing, they might convince you they love your business as much as you because of the consistent results they bring in.

Best part about this story of defeat?

I’m one of the few “good guys” in this world.

And you’re on my email list!

Is it fate?

Maybe.
