Starry vs Sprite

One interesting thing that’s happened in the world of soda recently is the rise of Starry. They replaced Sierra Mist (which I don’t even know if I’ve ever had—I’m not a big pop drinker and prefer a La Criox).
But Starry’s been crushing Sierra Mist in terms of advertising.
They probably won’t ever surpass Sprite. It’s what most people think of when they think of a lemon lime soda. Just like people think of Coke before Pepsi.
Now, I don’t know if I’ve had a Starry either.
But I do see their ads on TV quite a bit. And they have a decent one airing during the NBA playoffs.
The commercial?
Giannis is at a press conference, announcing that he’s switching to Starry. Everyone in the “media” goes crazy—and then a Sprite representative stands up questioning Giannis, but his Sprite shirt is blurred out.
Which brings me to the point of this short email:
Don’t mention your competitors by name.
It sends them attention that they don’t deserve from your leads and customers. Much better to be vague. Not only do you redirect that attention to your business, but a little mystery serves the copy good.
Anywho:
I’m feeling the vacation itch, so I’m leaving this’n short.
