True story:
Perhaps you remember talking about Goose before. Well, a few years back, they replaced their drummer. And the original drummer is parting ways with some of his merch via an auction that’s making some collector types part with large vats of moolah.
Like, for example:
Something called the “Goose Peen Poster.”
This is a silly little poster that is currently selling for $1860 with many hours left in the auction as I write this.
Why’s it so damned expensive, you ask?
Well, the goose in the poster is shaped like a, y’guessed it, a penis.
There’s no other story behind besides this fact that its peen-inspired shape has given it a cult-like status amongst collectors.
What a powerful marketing lesson this is…
(I have no idea if this thing can be resold for more later, making it an investment, or if it’s just for bragging rights, but that doesn’t matter for the content of today’s lesson.)
If you’re ever stuck staring at a blank screen, coming up with a fresh perspective for an email or other piece of copy, or obtaining your audience’s undivided attention…
Just stick your stick into it!
Sexual innuendos, whether they’re related to your product or not, are one of the easiest ways to spice up your copy, keep your audience on their toes, and even have more fun banging out copy than you normally do.
Why?
Everybody likes sex.
It’s one of the least boring topics you can write about even if it’s not directly related to what you’re selling.
And most of your competitors are gonna shy away from talking about “low brow” stuff like this because, and I’ve noticed this is extra prevalent amongst entrepreneurs, most people take themselves too seriously.
They’re too stuffy, boring, and focused on the features and benefits to stick their stick into anything.
But if you’re courageous enough, a sexual innuendo here or there keeps things spicy and fun. Not just for you, but for ye olde bank account too.
