Just how helpful is having a copy pro on your team?

I received the following message from one of my clients in our Slack channel yesterday:


“And yes, you have been doing a lot for us, and I really appreciate how you've stepped up. it's a huge help.” 


Ah-h-h-h, the taste of pure, sweet satisfaction. 


Here’s the context:


Despite working with this brand for quite some time—our three-year anniversary together is fast approaching—the owner of the business didn’t fully understand how to use me and my skills at first. 


Sure, I handled the email copy for various promotions, partnerships, and more when I first started. But the owner also wrote a bunch of emails. He had always done it. Mayhap he didn’t fully trust me at the beginning of our working together. Mayhap he felt that relinquishing control over the emails would result in an ego-hit—something that’s shockingly more common than you’d think, especially when we’re talking about the founder and owner instead of the head of marketing or intern on the marketing team.


And so, a few months ago, we had a meeting where he admitted he was doing too much in the business—and this affected his impact and influence when working on the business. Subtle, yet important distinction between the two. 


Anyway, during the call, he mentioned as much to me—and asked if I was willing to help him more with the overall email load. 


My response? 


“Ab-so-fkn-lutely. That’s why I’m here—to free up your time and make us both a nice chunk o’ change in the process too. I am always on Team Client after all.”  


Since this meeting, I’ve written a bunch more emails—and have gotten a bunch more Slack messages like the one I started this bad boy off with. 


As for the owner? 


He probably has at least 20 hours of his life back. And he’s spending those hours in a way that I can’t help with: Being the figurehead of his brand, creating more “upper level” content (videos, VSLs, workouts, podcasts, what have you as this figurehead), and tapping into growth in a way that he’s never been able to do before when writing email copy consumed so much of his time. 


And that’s the value of partnering with your humble narrator here. 


Yes, I’ll implement better, more persuasive copy that can ratchet up revenue. 


Yes, I’ll design a strategy that “fits” your brand, inspires sales and consumption and loyalty, and gives you a permanent “top of mind” status in the mind’s of your list. 


But the real benefit? 


Giving you back more of the most precious commodity any of us have access to:


Time. 


Time that you can spend however you want… whether that means making all of your kiddos baseball games, or working on your business instead of in it to unlock unprecedented growth, or to start another business, or to just feel more comfortable with sleeping in late.
