How my copy makes even cheap people fork over a fortune

I got a Slack notification earlier this week:

An affiliate promotion I ran for a client generated an extra $4k in commissions to my client. Now, I don’t know the exact payout percentage he agreed to with the main company, but I’m guessing it’s somewhere between 10% and 50%. Quite a hefty difference there. But alas, I don’t know.

This translates into generating 40k for the business on the high end, and 8k on the low end.

But here’s the kicker:

It’s a running joke with this client that his customers are cheap-o’s.

Whenever we offer something that’s more than a couple hundo doll-hairs, conversions typically tank. But not this time.

I don’t know how much moolah my client expected to generate from this promo, but I know he wasn’t expecting to sniff anywhere near the $4k check.

So, what was my secret?

Did I write the top tier copy that caused such an identity shift to our customers that they’ve decided to repent for their cheap-o ways?

While my ego likes to think so (and it has a case for sure), the real answer is a little murkier:

The affiliate promo was just a really good offer for several reasons:

First, it aligned with our customers arguably better than our flagship offer does.

Second, while it was a big payment, it also was a one-time payment. Anyone who took advantage of the offer won’t need a similar product for the rest of their days.

Third, there was a real deadline (that was out of our control) where people who acted before last Friday (at the time of writing) saved twice as much as someone who bought on Saturday.

And fourth?

Well my copy comes in fourth. Especially because I made an extra 15 sales on the last day of the promo (even though I wasn’t super aggressive because, well, because my client is kinda scared to market and sell - in fact, he even responded to the last email I wrote, before we saw the final commissions, about how I ought to tone down the copy… he might’ve had a case, but y’can’t argue with results).

As if you needed another reason or 4,ooo to believe that there’s not a better ROI than working with an email expert…

If you’d like to inject some cashflow into your coffers (without eem sellin’ yer offers), then, hear ye and hear ye goodly:

Hit reply, and let’s find a time to chat.
