How I used ChatGPT to pump out ~1500 words in 20 minutes

(No, I didn’t have ChatGPT write 1,500 words for me…)

I’ve discovered another use for ChatGPT:

In fact, what I’m about to share with you is one of the few times ChatGPT has actually raised my productivity. It did actually help me write a ~1500 word email in about 20 minutes—something that would normally take me a little less than an hour to pump out on my own.

That said, for the lazy marketers reading this, I wrote all 1500 words myself. I outsourced the menial work to ChatGPT.

Here’s what I mean:

One of the recent emails I wrote works as a checklist of sorts for our target audience. And so, I had ChatGPT make the initial checklist for me. ChatGPT is good at binary tasks like this: I described what I wanted in the checklist and who it was for, and ChatGPT spit out something passable.

Yes, I could've done this myself, but it would’ve been a waste of my time. And it would’ve taken more “brain power” that I could’ve used elsewhere—like making it as persuasive and relevant as possible.

After ChatGPT spit out the checklist for the specifications I asked for, I then went on and expanded on some of the items—inserting more tips and tricks and gentle sales pitches.

I also “teed” the checklist up, added pitches to the end of the email, and pressed on our audience’s pain points so the checklist would be more useful to them.

This email ended up being a whopping 1,500 words!

ChatGPT “wrote” a hundred of them or so. But I left most of what ChatGPT wrote in tact because I didn’t ask it for an email.

Multiple lessons here:

First, I gave ChatGPT a task it's capable of doing (making a checklist for a targeted audience) instead of one it’s incapable of doing (writing a persuasive email that drives sales and use).

Second, I wrote a 1,500 word email in a world where most brands think 500 words is too long.

Third, I didn’t get so lazy that I told ChatGPT to create this idea for me. This idea was based on another email I wrote months ago that made a chunk of change.

Moral of the story?

ChatGPT can’t do all your work. And if you ask it to, prepare to disappoint yourself.

But it can make you more productive. And it can help with simple tasks like I gave it above.

Anywho:

It goes without saying that asking ChatGPT to create and implement an email marketing strategy that increases sales and strengthens your relationship with your list is a fool’s errand.

But there’s an even easier way to get what you want:

Hit reply.

(Told ya it was easy!)
