Remember how I told you one of my clients wanted to hire an agency to run a split test?
Well, they just delivered their welcome series they wanted to test against mine this morning…
But they followed a wildly different strategy based on the meeting we had last week. As you know from my daily ramblings, I believe full-heartedly in a plain-text email strategy.
There’s a whole hunk of reasons why:
* It feels more personal, like a one-to-one style of communication instead of coming off as a corporate entity like what happens with heavily designed emails
* It’s better for deliverability - not only do more people respond (because of the reason above), but email providers also don’t like too many design elements, HTML, or images
* Because of the two reasons above, it’s much more effective at building relationships with your email list (which is the most important factor in email, even more important than revenue)
* And because of the three reasons above, it’s a better strategy for generating revenue—both in the short and long term
Well, during our call last week, this agency said that they’d try another plain-text welcome series after “analyzing” mine.
But this morning, they delivered a heavily designed welcome series because, and I quote:
“but the team thinks it makes more sense to see how this performs since John's copy is quite good already.”
Yeah, I could’ve told you that before they expended energy trying to beat mine.
(I wrote this welcome series in 2022 and it’s been humming along for two years. Once it stops performing as well as it does, I was gonna go back and optimize it. But that hasn’t happened yet.)
And I don’t think they’ll beat mine either - but even if, by chance, they do… I still think my welcome series serves my client better.
Because here’s the truth:
My welcome series is, yes, a welcome series. We offer a discount, add urgency, and try to convert leads to customers as quickly as possible.
But my welcome is so much more than that.
It’s also set up for long-term transactions and relationships.
Why?
Well, not only does it “prep” our list for our regular-degular emails… but it also deepens their pain, shows them that a solution exists, and makes the case that my client is the expert to help them solve their problems.
It also doubles as an email mini-series of sorts, which again, “primes” them to buy early and often.
(Not to mention… 90% of the clients I’ve worked with or even talked to who worked with an agency had nothing but horror stories.)
Anywho:
If you want to make $10k every month like clockwork from an automated welcome series that doesn’t require any oversight or tweaking…
As well as make more cashola from every campaign email you send…
Hit reply, and let’s chat.
