I ain’t a happy camper today.
Why?
There’s one reason in particular:
If you’ve ever had the displeasure of using Keap (pronounced “keep” with the lamest spelling ever and fka Infusionsoft), then you know that their email marketing/CRM software is mayhap the single worst software creation of all-time.
This thing rivals viruses that larp as anti-virus software. It’s that bad. That unintuitive. And that skull-crushingly brainless.
I honestly don’t understand how a simple email software could be built so poorly. Nor how it has existed for long—wait never mind, I get it now. They make their cancellation process so bureaucratic that, according to a Reddit user, they don’t even let you call your credit card company to block future payments from them. That’s against their rules and they’ll continue to charge you.
Even if you don’t go that route, the process is still bureaucratic. You can’t just click a cancel button. Instead, you set up a meeting with them, on their schedule, and prove you actually wanna cancel it.
Anyway, I’m going off a tangent.
That ain’t even why I’m frustrated at this stupid piece of software.
The real cause for my seething anger?
Keap makes it almost impossible if you want to track the performance of anything. Now, I’ve used other pieces of email software that weren’t super friendly to tracking results and analytics. But nothing as unnecessarily complicated or complex or time-consuming as Keap.
Alas, one of my clients uses this software. And I need to figure out a reliable way to track the results of my emails.
The good news is there’s a solution in a third-party app some developer created because he too wanted to, check notes, track the results of his work. Y’know something you take for granted in most email softwares because that’s part of the reason to use software like this.
Not offering easy to find analytics and data is almost like having a self-checkout register that requires an employee to scan the items for you. That’s how fkn stupid Keap is.
The bad news is this project is gonna take forever. In order to use the third-party analytics tool, it requires you tagging every email sent, opened, and clicked. There’s no other way. It doesn’t retroactively apply tags either, so it won’t even be useful for months.
And I’ve written a metric fvckton of automations for my client. They’ve written a bunch themselves before we started working together. Keap’s automation builder is also the most unintuitive piece of garbage my poor eyeballs have been forced to see.
In other words:
This is a multi-day project. Maybe even a multi-week project. For something so simple, 95% of email marketing softwares figured it out.
And the absolute worst part is they (foolishly) built their business on this piece of garbage software, so switching to a better software ain’t an option.
Moral of the story?
To quote the frustrated Reddit post I found:
====
“Avoid Keap AKA InfusionSoft at all costs!!!
I literally made a Reddit account just to write this.
Whoever is watching this video, I want to tell you about my horrible experience with keap.
They are absolutely nightmare horrible evil company. Nobody uses this. Please I’m warning you, that you must not use this email service at all costs. Must avoid them like the plague.”
====
Couldn’t agree more.
But I’ll take it a step further:
The plague might be better than Keap.
Anyway, need help sending more profitable emails for a fraction of the frustration that using a software like Keap costs?
Hit reply, and let’s chat.
Just pls don’t be using Keap.
