DM dorks

Writer: John BrandtJohn Brandt

There’s a new breed of freelancers promising you the world (and then some) in your DMs on X, on Instagram, and probably even on Facebook.

But there’s a massive problem with these blokes:

For example:

A few of these cold DM dorks DM’d me several times on X. Most of their “offers” were god-awful. But there were a couple of times when I thought their offer could be helpful for my business.

Well, won’t you guess what happ’n’d?

Despite these dorks DMing me several times, I never got one response after I responded.

If you know anything about cold outreach, you ought to know that 1. it’s a numbers game and 2. the moolah is made in the follow up.

And yet…

When given an opportunity to sell me on whatever they’re offering, radio silence.

Mayhap they gave up on their cold DM business and started a new agency with the next bright shiny object?

Mayhap they can’t actually offer you the world (and then some) through DMs as they claim.

Or mayhap they’re just totally unprofessional.

Any option above could be true.

But the lesson for you?

It’s a simple lesson, but one that bears repeating:

Do your due diligence before hiring anyone.

Most of these DM dorks are just that: Dorks.

They can’t offer you the world (especially if they’re pitching a cold outreach service, which historically has terrible success rates).

And if they don’t even respond to you after sending you several DMs or cold emails?

It’s safe to say that they’re in the wrong bidness and you should avoid them like a mask-wearing, blue-haired Karen.

One of the best ways to “vet” someone is to see if they practice what they preach. Take this email sequence for example - I’ve sent you a daily-ish email for damn near two years now. My blog has over 600 articles on it. I show up (almost) every day for this list—so you can bet your sweet arse I do the same for my clients.

Anywho:

Need a professional on your team to increase your revenue through email?

Hit reply, and let’s chat.

I have a few open spots on my client roster right now - but I don’t know how long this’ll last.
