Disgusting marketer lies

Writer: John BrandtJohn Brandt

One of me guilty pleasures is staying in the Nothing Held Back Job Board Facebook group. It’s an absolute cesspool of “what’s working right now” swipesters who rely on using over-the-top Facebook copywriting formulas from their favorite guru to shill their $500 copywriting offers.

I doubt that hiring anyone from this group is a wise investment. In fact, I’ve been waiting for 11 months for a refund from another jabroni I hired from another Facebook group who keeps crying sick every time I try to hassle him.

By all accounts, the group where I hired the jabroni is a more respectable group. And it’s still swarming with scammers and liars—an all too common trait for most marketers.

Anyway, back to the cesspool that is the Nothing Held Back Job Board…

Last night, I came across an unusual post in the group.

And I’m almost certain the entire story is made up, like a terrible It’s Always Sunny spinoff.

Here was his opening hook:

“My father is diagnosed with cancer and my family is relying on me to help with the surgery”

(Wait, so, this “Mike” guy in the Nothing Held Back Facebook group is a surgeon???)

Of course, this is (probably) a lie. Because after reading this, and seeing the absurd amounts of “engagement” this got (just a bunch of other jabronis believing this obviously made up story at face value… with a few innocent, yet not-so-intelligent people gobbling up this story as if this dude’s name was really “Mike”), I realized it was probably just engagement bait to “boost” the post into more people’s algorithm.

And so, after reading this line, I decided to do some digging:

I went to his personal Facebook page and I found, well, I found absolutely nothing about his dying father.

Red flag #1

Then, I looked closer at his name–and he’s using an American alias on Facebook. His real name is not Mike. And using false identities is a telltale sign that you’re dealing with a sociopath.

Red flag #2

And the third red flag is being in the Nothing Held Back Facebook group in general.

Idiots like this make the entire industry look bad.

I understand that marketers are more likely to be sociopaths. But to be so blatantly sociopathic that you “give” your father cancer to make a few shekels?

Leaves a disgusting taste in my mouth. As it should yours.

And let this be thy lesson:

Do your due diligence before hiring anyone on the internet.

Because you know what?

Some of the worst marketers are actually good at marketing. They’re good at making themselves seem like they’re not sociopaths. They’re good at layering on the hype and making it seem like their solution is the key to all of your business’s problems.

But when it comes time to deliver?

Poof.

They disappear like a wisp of smoke.

And yes, they only disappear after robbing you.

Because that’s how they make their moolah: Get good at marketing in order to rob you.

Not to deliver for you.

But to rob you.

Now that you’re aware of this intricate scam, it’s on you if’n you fall for it.

End rant.
