A simple (and relatively new) content creation trick

Writer's picture: John BrandtJohn Brandt

Yesterday, I went macro with you by listing 10 of the most insidious marketing diseases I see businesses infected with.

Today, we’re doing the opposite, and going super micro with a helpful tip for pumping out more content with more ease than perhaps ever before.

I have a handful of clients, and I write a varying amount of emails for each. Which is to say: I write a metric fvckton of emails every day, week, and month.

In fact, if I even went by a conservative estimation, I’ve written, and sent, well over 5,000 emails over the past four years or so (and the true number, which I have no desire or motivation to actually find, could be much, much higher).

All that to say this:

I’ve written a ton of emails. More emails than most people will write in their entire lives—and I’m just getting started.

Writing a ton of email requires having a ton of ideas for those emails. While I reuse some successful emails over, I want every new email I write to be different.

So here’s the simplest, yet wildly effective trick I’ve stumbled upon recently that makes writing emails just a little bit easier.

Only problem is, this specific content creation trick requires having video reviews.

But if you have good video reviews, they can become fodder for your emails—and you don’t even have to watch the video. (I learn better from reading than I do from watching.)

Here’s all you have to do:

Find the video you want to use on YouTube.

Once you find it, click the “more” button in the description to see the full description. Once the description is opened, scroll down until you see the Transcript section—and then click the “Show Transcript” button.

Voilà!

Now you have access to multiple quotes you can add to any email.

But the best part about this trick is this:

Most video reviews and testimonials have more story beats embedded in them. Yes, the actual things they say about your product or service in these things is typically better than most of your text reviews. But these video reviews and testimonials tend to tell a story—which can become the fodder for your entire email.

Very profitable, albeit simple tip indeed.
